Melissa Lafferty, DVM
Veterinarian
Ever since I can remember I have wanted to be a veterinarian. My parents
always were wondering what animal was going to be my next rescue project. I
became a member of Gentle Doctor Animal Hospital in May of 2006. I received
all of my undergraduate and doctoral education at the University of Missouri
Columbia (Once a Tiger always a TIGER!  MIZ-ZOU!) I grew up right here in
the heart of Saint Charles and I can not be happier to be back.

My husband and I are both from Saint Charles. We even came back here in 2004
to get married because most of our friends and family are from here.

I am so ecstatic that I was able to make veterinary medicine my career. This job
is very fulfilling for me. I love all the animals that I have been able to help so
far.  I can’t imagine myself in any other profession.

Animals have always had a place in my heart. I currently have two cats and two
dogs.  Tiger and Lily are my 5-year-old cats. They absolutely live for each other.
Lily is a grey and white long haired domestic and Tiger id a brown tabby. Blake
is my 7-year-old, Husky mix; I adopted him from the humane society of
Columbia, as a puppy, back in Feb of 2000.  My husband teases me that I love
Blake more than him, but Blake does listen really well! My newest addition Baci,
which is Italian for kisses, is an 8-month-old Italian Mastiff.

Most of my personal interests involve my children. I have a 17 month-old son
who is absolutely adorable, but what mom wouldn’t say that. I also have a 5-year-
old step daughter. I love to read, cook, camp, horseback ride and travel.

I can’t wait to meet you and the animal members of your family. See you soon!
